Mahasthamaprapta means One Who Has Attained Great Strength. In East Asian Buddhist art, the bodhisattva stands beside Amitabha Buddha opposite Avalokiteshvara. In Chinese tradition Mahasthamaprapta is called Dashizhi and may appear in feminine form, reflecting the fluid visual histories of bodhisattvas across cultures.
